Case study: Importing data via csv files into Google’s My Maps tool
Kelly Fincham
Google offers beginners a really useful tool called My Maps (not Google Maps!) for mapping information from csv files which are easily accessed via sites like data.gov.ie.
About Google My Maps
In this example we have downloaded a csv file about Irish tourism attractions from the Irish Open Data website and imported it into Google maps to demonstrate how easy it is to use.
But now, go further!
What information could you use from this map to create storytelling content and why?
What features would you add/delete from the markers?
Thinking about the categories, which categories might make a useful piece of content?
